The 'Safe' range
A look at all of the different rig and tackle storage solutions that fall under the 'Safe' family
Being well prepared will definitely help you to catch more carp, and part of that is having spare rigs ready to go so that you can get your rods out quickly at the start of a session, or after you’ve landed a fish.
These days many anglers carry a number of spare rigs, and often various different types of them as well, so that all they need to do is tie or clip them on, add a hookbait, and they’re ready to cast out.
But you need to ensure that your spare rigs – especially the hook points – and all the components you use, stay in perfect condition until they are needed, and can be safely stored and transported, and that is where the Safe range comes in.
This rig storage range includes a variety of different cases to store everything from rigs that you have tied in advance, leaders and the tackle essentials that you use to construct your rigs, including hooks. These come under the banner of various Rig Safes, Leader Safes, a Tackle Safe, Chod Safe, and a Hook Safe.
Rig storage
The RigSafe is a hard clamshell style case that is available in various different forms, depending on what length your hook links are and how many you want to store, plus there is a version that allows you to keep some basic items of terminal tackle within the same case for easy access to essential components that you need to get your rods out – the idea being that rather than having to unpack your gear to access what you need, you can just grab your RigSafe Combi from a side pocket of your Compac rucksack or carryall, and have everything you need, such as hair stops, Kickers, hook beads, rig rings, and the like.

As well as the RigSafe Combi, the range also includes large and mini versions of a standard RigSafe, which is designed solely for storing rigs, and will hold up to 90 pre-tied ones (60 in the mini).
As seeing as the whole concept of the RigSafe is a box for storing your rigs so that when you want to use them they are as good as when you tied them, protecting your hook points is a big factor, and that is achieved by use of a special, ridged, coated aluminium bar that the hook can be carefully located around, with the ridges ensuring it stays in place – as long as the rig is pinned under tension – and can’t come into contact with the hooks/rigs on either side of it. There is also a recess built into it, such that any Kickers or shrink tube extensions will remain the correct shape.
The standard and mini RigSafe are double-sided, utilising all the available storage space, with the larger of the two featuring three such ‘bars’, each of which can hold 30 rigs, and the mini has one ‘bar’ on each side of the side. The RigSafe Combi has a ‘bar’ on one side and can be used to store 20 rigs.

The rigs are held securely in place via pins, with single pins designed to retain a swivel, and double pins are for rigs with a loop on the end and allow them to be stored stretched out straight but without causing a kink in the loop. These pins are used in conjunction with the high density foam rig boards affixed inside the RigSafe, and can be used repeatedly without the foam deteriorating.

Hard moulded plastic cases
The outer case is made from moulded plastic and is very tough and rugged, with a soft touch rubber coating that helps prevent it from sliding off of anything you stand it on, and also features ruler markings to help you to exactly measure your rigs to the correct length when tying them.
The case is closed securely via magnetic fasteners, which means there is no chance of it accidentally opening during transit. It has been designed in a way that it is easy to open when you need to, even with cold hands.
Neil Spooner “We can all be better prepared, I like to turn up at the lake and have rig cases full of the different rigs that I like to use.”
The Tackle Safe is the ideal solution for storing all your essential terminal tackle items and at just 24cm long will easily fit in a side pocket of your rucksack or carryall, so you can easily access it when you need to.
It features various sized compartments, with flip top lids to prevent any chance of items spilling out, and will hold all sort of terminal tackle. The larger compartments will hold things such as the Heli-Safe beads, Hybrid lead clips, swivels, Kickers, tail rubbers, and can even store packets of hooks. There is also a larger open compartment for rig tools or even hook link material. Shallower compartments are good for storing swivels, rig rings, shrink tubing, and smaller items.

Magnetic fasteners
Like the Rig Safes, it has a soft-touch, high impact plastic case with magnetic fasteners, with a ruler marked on it to aid accurate and consistent rig tying.
For fans of chod rigs there is a purpose made Chod Safe which will ensure your spare rigs remain in perfect condition and retain a curve in them whilst they are being stored and transported
This rugged, soft-touch plastic box, with magnetic fasteners, features two different diameter foam-covered cylinders, which are used to store different length chod rigs or where you want to vary how aggressive the curve is.
Each chod cylinder features a grooved, aluminium bar along with a recess, to ensure that your rig stays in place – with the other end pinned to the foam – and there is no chance of damaging the hook point during transit.

There is space for 28 pre-tied chods, and in addition it will hold three leadcore leaders complete with Heli-Safe Systems, and the cylinder has a pop out handle recessed into it, and which has been designed to allow you to steam your chods into the right shape without burning your fingers.
For storing your leaders, there is a purpose-made Leader Safe, which comes in two different sizes and prevents them getting damaged or ending up in a tangled mess.
The smaller one will hold three leaders, complete with lead system components, and the large size has enough space for six of them.

They are stored on a hard plastic insert which has a special slot to hold a Heli-Safe System, Hybrid Lead Clip, swivel, or whatever you have on the end of the leader, and it is then wound round within the corresponding channel to ensure it stays in place. A clear plastic outer casing ensures that the leaders can’t come unravelled during transit.
The Leader Safe can also be used inside the Tackle Box, and will fit if the outer casing is removed.
When you spend time sharpening your hooks so that they are just right, or even picking the ones you are happiest with out of a packet, the last thing you want to happen is for the point to get damaged before you have a chance to use them. It is also very useful for rigs where the hair has been whipped on in advance.

The Hook Safe is the perfect solution as it will hold 67 individual hooks, in sizes from 2 to 8, which are held securely in place in a special slotted silicone insert that protects the point whilst being stored and also prevents you from accidentally damaging it when putting them in, or taking them out, of the box.
The box is made from high impact, hard plastic, with a magnetic fastener, and the lid has a built-in, flip-up, magnifying lens so that you can check the hook point closely. The Hook Safe will also fit inside our Tackle Box.
THE FULL RIG STORAGE RANGE:
Korda RigSafe Large
The larger of the two RigSafe cases will hold up to 90 pre-tied rigs, either with swivels, loops or with an unfinished end.
It features a single bar and high density foam rig board on one side of the case, whilst the opposite side features two bars, one at each end of the case, meaning that rigs can be stored in both directions.

It is 12 inches long and is ideal for those of you who like to use longer rigs or want more storage capacity. For any rigs that exceed 12 inches, the double pins can be used to enable you to store them without creating a kink in the hook link material when you double it up. Each RigSafe Large comes complete with 30 single pins and 20 double ones, and both types can also be bought separately if you need more.

Korda RigSafe Mini
The mini version of the RigSafe case can be used to store up to 60 rigs, either with swivels, loops or with an unfinished end.
It features a single bar and high density foam rig board on each side of the case, meaning that 30 rigs can be stored on each side of it.
At ten inches in length it is designed for storing shorter rigs, and is long enough for most of what people use these days, but for any rigs that exceed that length, the double pins can be used to enable you to store them without creating a kink in the hook link material when you double it up.

Unless you’re looking to carry large numbers of spare rigs – in which case the large version is the best option – this is the ideal choice for most people who just want a rig case.
Each RigSafe Mini comes complete with 30 single pins and 15 double ones, and both types can also be bought separately if you need more.
Korda RigSafe Combi
The RigSafe Combi is aimed at anglers who want to store up to 20 spare rigs, in a case along with essential components that they might need in order to be in a position where they can get their rods out just by using this.

As well as a high density foam rig board on one side, which can hold up to 20 pre-tied rigs of up to eight inches in length, the other side of the case features 12 compartments with clear flip top lids, so you can easily see what is inside and are easily opened, and which can be used to hold all sorts of other essential rig components such as hair stops, Kickers, anti-tangle sleeves, swivels, micro ring swivels, hook beads, Floss Caps, and the like.

Like with the other Korda Rig Safe cases, if you need to store longer rigs you can do so by using the double pins to avoid kinking them.
Each RigSafe Combi comes complete with 15 single pins and 10 double ones, and both types can also be bought separately if you need more.

Korda Tackle Safe
If you’re looking for somewhere to neatly store your terminal tackle and don’t require as much space as the Tackle Box has, or just want easy access to certain essential items of terminal tackle, then the Korda Tackle Safe is the perfect solution.

This 24 inch high impact plastic case, with a soft-touch finish and magnetic fasteners, has been designed to store all sorts of rig components, including the Heli-Safe System, lead clips, tail rubbers, Kickers, hooks, rig tools and even hook link material – basically anything you need to tie a rig and set up your rods. On one side it has eight compartments, plus an open space in the same half for things such as scissors, with the other half featuring various sized compartments with clear flip top lids.
The Tackle Safe is ideal for keeping in the side pocket of a rucksack or carryall, so that you can get your rods out quickly when you arrive, and is also great if you go stalking.

The compartments vary in size and have clear flip top lids, so you can see what is inside but it can’t accidentally spill out.
Korda Chod Safe
As the name suggests, the Chod Safe has been designed to store all your spare chod rigs and to ensure they stay in perfect condition until you need to use them.

The Chod Safe will hold 28 pre-tied chod rigs, and the clever internal foam-covered cylinder has two different diameters to allow for different lengths of chod or for retaining a more aggressive curve, and will ensure that your chods keep the shape which you intended when you tied them.
The chod rigs are held in place via a hook-retaining machined aluminium bar, with grooves to ensure that the hook stays in place and can’t get damaged, with the other end of it being pinned to the foam, with one of the 30 pins that come supplied with it.

There is also space for three leadcore leaders as well, complete with lead systems, plus the cylinder handle is recessed and pops out, so that it can be used to steam your chods into the perfect shape without burning your fingers.
Korda Leader Safe
The two different sizes of Leader Safe offer the perfect way to store your Dark Matter and pre-tied Kable leadcore leaders securely so that they can’t become damaged when not being used.
The smaller size will hold three leaders, whilst the large one has enough space for six, and these are stored on a hard plastic insert, which features specially designed slots to keep the leader in place, and a hard, clear plastic outer sleeve stops it all unravelling. These slots will hold things such as a Hybrid Lead Clip or a Heli-Safe System.

Both sizes of Leader Safe can also be used within the Tackle Box, but to enable that the clear plastic outer needs to be removed in order for them to fit.
Korda Hook Safe
If you spend time hand sharpening your hooks, or even picking ones out of the packet that you’re particularly happy with, then you want to be able to store them in a way that ensures that no damage can occur to the point before you use them.
The slotted silicone insert will hold up to 67 hooks in sizes from 2 to 8, and has been designed so that each individual hook is held securely in place and can’t come into contact with an adjacent hook, with enough room to put them in or take them out without risk of touching the hook point against anything that could damage it.

It’s made from high impact hard plastic, with magnetic fasteners to ensure that it can’t come open during transit, but is still easy to open and close when you choose to. The lid also has a built-in, flip-up magnification lens, which is secured magnetically when not in use, and can be used to check hook points.
The Hook Safe is designed to work well with the rest of the Safe range of rig and tackle storage cases, and also fits into the Tackle Box.
