‘What We Thinking Tackle” Danny Fairbrass in Hungary

Danny Fairbrass faces some of the toughest and most extreme fishing conditions of his life when he journeys to Hungary for a winter episode of Thinking Tackle. 

His destination, Lake Szucsi—just a couple of hours east of Budapest—is legendary for producing carp over 80lb, along with plenty of hard-fighting backup fish that make the long trek from the UK worth the effort.But nature isn’t on his side. A heavy snowfall hits just before his arrival, and the temperature plummets to well below freezing, threatening to turn even this spring-fed lake—which rarely freezes—into a solid block of ice, potentially halting his fishing altogether. 

Against all odds, though, the carp remain active and willing to feed. Danny Locates a pocket where a group of carp are holed up for the winter, and he seizes theopportunity.To reach the fish, he needs to use a boat to drop his rigs and bait at extreme distances and even play hooked fish from the boat, giving him the best possible chance to land them. 

This style of fishing is way out of Danny’s comfort zone, forcing him to adapt and learn quickly in order to succeed.One unexpected challenge is that his hookbaits are actually too effective. The smaller fish get hooked so quickly that the bigger resident carp aren’t getting a chance to get to the bait. To solve this, Danny does something almost unthinkable: he makes his baitless attractive in hopes of coaxing the lake’s monster carp into a bite.
