Spooner's Tactics Fishing The Secret Lake

Neil Spooner recently visited a secret lake for a little guest session where he managed to catch 3 very cool carp. As well as joining him for the ride and having a great time, there are always things that you can take away and implement into your own fishing!

Number 1

Never leave home without your Kranks! Spooner has been a HUGE fan of the Krank for many years now and it’s his go to hook. This was Neil’s first session on this lake, and it’s known to hold some very special carp. It’s for that reason its key to have all the components you are super confident in, within your armoury. He may not know the spots, or all the carp’s likely areas to hold up in; he may not know the winning bait for the day but what he can be sure in (by using the Krank) is that whatever he hooks, he will land… confidence is key.

Number 2

Use the Spinner rig! Again, confidence is key and although Neil had decided to use a helicopter presentation on this occasion, the rig itself stays pretty much the same. He knows it resets and he knows it catches carp… why would you change!

Number 3

PLASTIC HOOKBAITS! Spooner had been informed that there are Crayfish in the lake and could be a pain (particularly at night). It’s for this reason, he decided to fish Artificial Hookbaits in two ways. On one rod, he opted for his ever-faithful Double Slow Sinking Corn and on the other he decided to try something new in the form of a Slow Sinking Boilie in the Cell flavour. The reason for this is that the Crayfish might move in, but he could be confident that he would always have a bait on his rig! Spooner likes to boost his Plastic Hookbaits in Isotonic Supreme Goo (its soaks in easier than the Smoke) and is happy to put the hookbaits back in soak after use.

Number 4

Take your polaroid glasses! Neil laps the lake countless times in this episode of the vlog and the reason for that is, the carp at this time of year can be on the move a lot! Couple that with the fact the lake is very shallow and gin clear, with the help of his polaroid glasses, Neil could go and actively seek out the lakes stock of carp. Polaroid’s take the glare off the surface layer and allow you to see so much deeper into the lake!

Number 5

Go and make it happen! It’s time to go and get the rods out. The carp are on the move and ready to feed. In the coming weeks they will be at their largest weights and look in their prime condition ahead of spawning (seems crazy to mention that now already but it won’t take long).
