New Korda products for June in shops now!

Some exciting new Korda products will be hitting your local tackle shop this weekend, including a new hook pattern which is based on one of our timeless classics; plus a new Kaizen Green spod rod which completes the range, in terms of spodding; and several new items of clothing, including shorts, trousers and caps.

Here we take a detailed look at what is being launched and why it will either improve your fishing, in terms of the new tackle, or look and feel even better on the bank, when it comes to the clothing we’ve just released.

Korda Straight Point Hook

For decades the Wide Gape pattern of hook has been one of the most popular designs and even now is still a favourite of many anglers, including Darrell Peck and Damian Clarke.

One of the reasons why some anglers – including the likes of Danny Fairbrass – have been less keen on it for a lot of their fishing has been the fact that the original Wide Gape had a beaked point.

This type of point tends to stay in incredibly well, once you actually get a hook hold, but in terms of pricking a fish initially, many will argue that a straight point hook is superior, due to the shape of the point and how easily it penetrates.

So, we decided to make a few design tweaks that will give all the benefits that made the Wide Gape pattern so good, but with a straight point, and we ended up with the new Straight Point hooks.

The Straight Point Hook is ultra sharp, tapered, and has a straight point, and is razor sharp straight out of the packet, with no need to mess around sharpening it any further. It also has a PTFE coating to ensure durability, but without compromising the sharpness.

The shank is now slightly longer than the Wide Gape, and with a 15 degree in-turn on the eye, which helps the hook to flip over and for that straight point to easily take an initial hold when it pricks the fish.

It is also an incredibly strong hook, being forged using X gauge Japanese steel wire, and it is suitable for use both at home and abroad, as it is able to withstand snaggy and weedy situations where a stronger hook is needed.

The Straight Point is also incredibly versatile, and can be used with a wide variety of different rigs, and with pop-ups, wafters and bottom baits – including Ronnie rigs, D-rigs, and combi rigs. To make it even more versatile we have also added intermediate sizes, with it coming in packs of ten and sizes 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Korda Kaizen Green 12ft 6in Spod Rod

The Kaizen Green range has been immensely popular since its launch, and already includes a spod rod in 12ft and 13ft versions, but we definitely felt like there was a gap and were often being asked for a 12ft 6in version.

A longer rod will definitely get you more distance, but only if you are able to use it to its full potential, and for some anglers the step up from 12ft to 13ft is too much and they don’t feel comfortable with a rod of that length, especially when hurling one of the larger spombs to the horizon.

So, the 12ft 6in version is the perfect option for them, as it will improve distance versus a 12ft rod, but will still feel comfortable enough to cast with that you won’t overly notice that it is longer, in terms of how it feels to you when casting.

Like all of the Kaizen Green range, it is built using high quality carbon on a fast tapered profile mandrel, all the way from the butt to the tip, and that results in a tippy action that allows for very good power transfer, as well as recovery. It also has very little twist, and that helps when it comes to casting accuracy.

It features high quality fittings throughout, with Sea-Guide TDG guides – 50mm butt and 16mm tip - that have a special ADAMAN coating that makes them incredibly hard wearing and also ensures that line passes over it smoothly.

Your reel is secured via a Sea-Guide DPS style reel seat and the handle is covered in Japanese shrink wrap to allow a good grip, even when you have spod mix on your hands, plus the flared end to the butt grip helps when really trying to hit the horizon and being as accurate as possible, as it reduces the chances of the butt twisting within your grasp.

During testing, this spod rod has been used to put even the largest size of Spomb incredible distances and with great accuracy. It will also fit inside a 12ft Compac rod holdall, if you already have one for your fishing rods.

Trucker Caps

A trucker style cap is a great option during the warmer months, or all year round if you personally prefer that style over some of the more traditional caps.

The main difference with these caps is that they feature a breathable mesh back to them, which still offers protection from the sun, whilst allowing good air flow and helping to keep you feeling cool.

The rest of the crown is structured, meaning that the cap will keep its shape and also feels nice to wear, whatever your head shape and hair style, as it can be adjusted via a snap closure at the back and one size fits all.

The pre-curved peak is at the perfect angle for keeping the sun out of your eyes and cutting out glare, so is great when used in conjunction with a pair of Korda Clothing polarised sunglasses, as there is no need to shield your eyes with your hand.

There are three different, stylish designs of trucker cap within the range, featuring different logos, including the ‘Live for the Dawn’ version, which Danny Fairbrass can often be seen wearing, and which comes in a choice of olive green or black, for the main body, and with a mocha coloured peak. There is also a Thinking Tackle version, plus one with a Union Jack style flag, but in black rather than red, white and blue.

Kombat shorts and trousers

The Korda Clothing Original Kombats trousers and Kombat shorts have been around for a long time and are incredibly popular with anglers, and now both are available in our stylish Dark Kamo pattern.

Both are made from an incredibly tough and hard wearing material, utilising 150gsm rip-stop fabric, to ensure they’re able to withstand constant use out on the bank, and also can handle contact with undergrowth, or even just sitting on the ground.

Although the material offers plenty of protection – including against mosquitoes – it is also lightweight and won’t feel restrictive, in spite of the tailored fit, as it has some stretch to it. It also dries very quickly if you do get wet.

Both the shorts and the trousers come with loads of pockets to store everything you might want to carry and to do so securely, so whether you’re just walking round the lake, or climbing a tree, you know you won’t lose them.
