Summer Day Ticket Masterclass - Darrell Peck

Darrell Peck catches lots of carp wherever he goes, and in this Summer Day Ticket Masterclass we take an in-depth look at the tackle and tactics that he uses at this time of the year, on waters that are accessible to anyone.

He has chosen to fish two busy day ticket lakes – St Johns Lake, on the Linear Fisheries complex in Oxfordshire; and Holden’s Lake on the Embryo Norton Disney fishery in Lincolnshire – where anybody can just turn up and fish, and this Masterclass talks you through exactly how he goes about tackling these two venues, using a different approach on each, and explaining how to keep the bites coming.

PVA bag approach

On St Johns Lake he starts off fishing PVA bags in open water, and will show you how to tie one, what bait to put in it, and what rig you should be using, as well as the tackle needed for casting these bags.

Whilst he catches a few on the PVA bags, he quickly realise that there are more bites to be had by fishing tight to the far margins under the overhanging trees, and explains exactly how he goes about clipping up and casting accurately so as to avoid putting it up a tree, as well the type of rig that he favours so that when he does get a cast just right, he can sit back and await a bite, knowing that it won’t be tangled.

Hookbaits for the summer

He also takes a look at the type of hookbaits and baiting that he favours during the summer months, and which contrast to the bright, visual baits that the fish will have been hammered on all spring.

Having caught enough carp at Linear to show just how well his tactics work, he then drives to Norton Disney and sets about using a completely different approach, fishing an area in open water where he spods out a big bed of boilies in anticipation that the hungry fish in this well-stocked lake will really get onto his spot in numbers if he keeps feeding them.

The winning rig

Over the next few days, Darrell shows just how effective fishing match-the-hatch hookbaits can be at this time of year, over a fairly tight bed of bait and with all three rods on it. He also explains exactly how to tie his winning rig – a ready-tied version will also be available soon – which he uses for a lot of his fishing, whether on day ticket lakes fishing for multiple bites, or searching out monsters on massive wild waters.

He goes into every little detail which will help you to get more bites and including things that you might not have thought of before – such as the difference the type of main line that you use can make, and on this session he uses two different types, with very different properties and advantages.
