Two main functions;

1, Set up and run our own fisheries as affordable venues that anyone can join.

2, Help others protect their lakes from the increasing threat of predation.

Embryo Angling Habitats was set up in 2014 by Korda owner Danny Fairbrass, and his focus was to create new fisheries, help protect existing ones and provide a sustainable future for carp fishing in the UK and Europe.

Since then, Embryo, which is a not-for-profit limited company, has grown rapidly, and successfully runs a number of syndicate lakes across the country – many of which had previously been abandoned by anglers – which have been stocked, where necessary, with top-quality fish to ensure their future for many years to come.

In addition to those syndicate waters, it also owns the Norton Disney day ticket complex, in Lincolnshire, which now has six fishable lakes to cater for all levels of angling, and the fish in all of them have been piling on the weight.

Embryo even has the option to book a lake exclusively for you and your mates, via North Bank, in Peterborough, which can cater for up to eight anglers and has a very good head of 20s, along with a few 30s.

As an organisation everything is taken into consideration when it comes to the future of carp angling.

Protecting the stock of its own waters from predation, along with any other that are under threat, played a big part in its formation.

Predation, especially from otters, has had a big impact on many fisheries and usually the only solution is to fence the lakes, but this isn’t cheap to do and was often so prohibitive that clubs and syndicates just had to hope for the best.

When it comes to fencing, Embryo doesn’t make a profit from it and the aim is simply to provide an affordable service – either via its ‘cost fencing service’ where it supplies and installs a fence and only charges the materials and labour at cost price; or it will help the venue to source the materials from the manufacturer and doesn’t take any sort of cut from that transaction. It even has a limited fund of money which is used to install fences at no cost at all where an open access club or venue has done a lot for the sport, but has no way of being able to afford fencing, and money to help with this is raised each year, as well as internal funding from the other parts of Embryo.

As a result of all this, numerous fisheries around the country are now safe from predation, and a number of lakes have become available to anglers again after having been abandoned, and have had their stocks restored to a level that means that people will be fishing them for many years to come.

‘Embryo is a limited company but is run like a charity, and no one can ever take money from it, it’s in the articles of association, and that means that I can only ever put money into the business to fund and won’t ever be able to take any out.’
