What is Scott Sweetman wearing this summer?

Every angler has their own preferences when it comes to clothing, and here we take a look at what Scott wears, and why.

Scott Sweetman has very limited time to spend out on the bank, due to family commitments, but he still manages to catch some very special carp each year.

Being comfortable and feeling good when you are out on the bank will definitely help you to catch more, and wearing the right sort of clothing and accessories plays a part in that.

It’s no good if you are feeling too hot – or cold – or end up a sweaty mess, or get soaked when it rains, so choosing clothing that is suitable for the time of year and keeps you feeling great, allows you to focus entirely on your fishing.

The Korda Clothing range features garments for any time of the year, and to suit any personal taste/style, so whatever season you are fishing in, you’ll find something that is just right for you, both in terms of the way it feels when wearing it, as well as the way it looks – just because you’re in the great outdoors, it doesn’t mean that you have to look like you’ve just been dragged through a hedge and are wearing clothing with no shape!

Here we take a look at what Scott typically wears when he is out on the bank during the summer months.

T-shirts

A lot of the time you will find him wearing our Kamo Tee, in the Light Kamo pattern, which is made from a high quality, soft touch material, which has a 60% cotton and 40% polyester mix, to produce a fabric that is durable and able to withstand the rigours of regular outdoor use.

Although it has been tailored to your body shape for a great fit – with sizes to fit anybody, from small to XXXL – it still has plenty of room to allow you complete freedom of movement, such as when playing fish or casting, even in sticky and humid conditions, plus provides good air flow.

Scott explained: ‘For the top half I like the Light Kamo t-shirts, I think they help you to blend in while stalking, or watching carp, and they are also a slightly tougher material, which helps when climbing through the brambles and shrubbery.’

Once he has the rods out and is able to chill out in his swims, he tends to change into a Kool UPF Zip Jersey – he has them in both olive green and Dark Kamo – and they not only keep him feeling cool and comfortable, thanks to the closed hole mesh, inter-locking material, which is so lightweight that you will hardly feel that you have it on, but also provide a good level of protection from the sun, thanks to the long sleeves and high neck.

The Kool UPF Zip Jersey has a UPF50 rating, and if you do buy one, you’ll be helping the Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund and Melanoma Focus, as 50% of all profits from these shirts is split between these two charities, and with both being causes that Korda boss Danny Fairbrass supports.

Scott explained: ‘Once the rods are out and I’m chilling, I’ve started using the Kool UPF Zip Jersey in dark Kamo or dark olive, as the long-sleeved and higher neck also help protect you from the mozzies, and keep you cool at the same time.’

A top for those chilly evenings

Even during the height of summer, the temperature can still drop enough at night that you will feel it, or even just the contrast compared to the heat of the day, can mean you end chilly and uncomfortable if you aren’t prepared.

At the same time you don’t want any sort of hoodie that is so thick that you end up sweating and too hot, and the Korda Lightweight Hoodie is a great choice, and is what Scott can be found wearing in the evenings, or early in the morning.

He likes the Light Kamo version of this hoodie and finds that it is perfect when he needs more than just a t-shirt or his Kool long sleeve top, as it provides extra warmth but without being too warm.

The fabric is a mixture of cotton, polyester and Spandex, which gives a good, tailored fit that feels comfortable to wear, whilst at the same time providing enough stretch in the material that your movements don’t feel restricted.

It also allows good airflow thanks to looser cuffs and neck than that which is found on our regular hoodies.

Combat trousers aren’t just for the colder months

Whilst many anglers like to wear shorts during the warmer months, there are plenty of venues where they aren’t really practical, and you aren’t fishing from manicured swims.

That is most definitely the case on many of the waters where Scott spends his time, so he tends to wear the Korda Original Kombats all year round, as not only do they protect his legs, but are also incredibly practical for fishing.

Scott explained: ‘On the bottom half I always wear the original Kombats even in the heat, as for a lot of my fishing I’m clambering through the undergrowth or climbing trees to find the carp.

‘The Kombats protect my legs from getting stung and scratched, and the pockets are perfect for carrying everything I need without anything falling out while climbing trees - the side pockets in particular are handy to put a handful of boilies into, keeping your hands free to climb.

‘They are still nice and lightweight and have an element of stretch, which is perfect for the situations we find ourselves in while angling.’

Polarised sunglasses are essential

For any angler, especially someone like Scott who has limited time and needs to find where the carp are, in order to make the most of his trips, that means a good set of polarised sunglasses.

When it comes to fishing sunglasses, a lot comes down to personal taste and which model fits well and feels good on your face, as well of course, that it has good lenses which allow you to see deeper down into the water, and enable you to spot fish – and clear areas – much better than you can do with your naked eyes.

Scott’s preferred model of sunglasses is the Korda Wraps MK2, with the matt green frames and yellow lenses, which are good in all light conditions, but especially so in lower light as well as they help enhance what natural light is available – ideal for turning up after work for an overnight session.

The Wraps MK2 are very comfortable to wear and provide good coverage for your eyes, including blocking out light from entering at the sides of the lenses, and the wrap-around style ensures a good fit, especially if you’re an angler like Scott who likes to climb trees and peer through the undergrowth whilst trying to find the carp.
