What fishing clothing should you be wearing this spring?
The weather can be very changeable at this time of year, so make sure you are prepared!
Spring is a great time to be out on the bank fishing, but the weather can be extremely unpredictable and you need to be prepared for almost anything.
At this time of the year it can quickly change from bright sunshine and 20 degree daytime temperatures, to rain, frost, or even sleet and snow showers at the extreme end of the scale!

Obviously you don’t want to have to take your entire fishing clothing wardrobe on the bank with you, but it does make sense to be prepared as much as is practical and to choose garments which will ensure you stay comfortable and don’t get too hot, cold, or wet, and which in turn will ensure that you fish far more effectively, and will help to improve your catch rate as a result of that.
A t-shirt is the perfect base layer
A t-shirt is the perfect choice of clothing to wear against your upper body, as it can keep you cool enough on those warm, sunny days, whilst helping to add insulation and keep you warm when temperatures drop and you need to wear other layers over the top of it.

All of the Korda t-shirts are made from breathable materials to help regulate your body temperature – including models such as the Kamo Pro Tee which uses a high tech polyester active-wear style material to keep you cool – as well as wicking any moisture away from your body to keep you feeling comfortable.
There is a whole range of different designs, styles and colours – everything from just a subtle Korda logo, such as the Minimal Tee or TK Tee, through to more brightly coloured fishing related patterns like the Blossom or Dot t-shirts – so not only will you feel great when wearing them, but you will also look good as well, whatever your personal taste in clothing.

For those who are looking to blend in more with their surroundings, then the Kamo Tee and Tie Dye Tee are both good options.
There is also a Korda Polo shirt, for those who prefer that style to a t-shirt, and which are made from a lightweight breathable material, along with additional ventilation, and if you do get caught out in the rain, it is also fast drying.
A choice of stylish hoodies and jumpers
A hoodie is the perfect choice for fishing, as it is very practical and comfortable, and the Korda range includes a variety of different style.
The hood feels very snug to wear on those chilly evenings and early mornings, or if you happen to be fishing on the end of a cold wind, and the Korda range includes several different weights of hoodie, so whatever the temperature, you’ll be able to stay warm.

As well as the more traditional style of hoodie, such as original TK Hoodie and the Lightweight Hoodie, the range also includes zipped hoodies, for even more flexibility when it comes to regulating your body temperature, with a standard Zip Hoodie plus a more heavy duty Zip Pro Hoodie, both of which feel great to wear.
They are all highly practical for fishing, with a large kangaroo pouch pockets (or one each side of the zip) at the front which has plenty of space for items such as your bite alarm receiver, plus a hood that can be adjusted for a comfortable fit which stays on your head – or over the top of a cap or beanie.

These hoodies all look and feel great to wear as well, thanks to the tailoring and materials used, with a focus on comfort as well as not feeling restrictive when you are casting, baiting up, playing fish, or similar, thanks to stretch panels which provide an ‘action fit’.
We know that some of you prefer to wear a more traditional jumper when fishing, and the Korda Crew Neck has exactly the sort of style that you’d expect from one designed for fishing, but with some clever tweaks to add to its comfort and functionality, as well as using a material with a soft fleece inner which feels great against your skin. The stretchy waist, neck and cuffs help to keep heat in as well, and it has become a favourite of some of our Korda Mindset anglers.

Joggers or Kombats are ideal
Joggers are a great option for fishing as they are not only extremely comfortable to wear but also very practical.
There are two different styles of joggers in the Korda range which are ideal for this time of year, with a Heavy and a Lite version, depending on how warm it is.
The Heavy Joggers are thick enough that you won’t feel cold whilst wearing them at night, or on those colder spring days, and if we do get some hotter weather then the Lite Joggers are ideal as they will help you to keep cool, whilst still providing enough warmth once the sun goes down.

Both are made from a polyester and cotton blend fabric, which not only feels great against your skin but also helps to repel moisture, so if you do get caught out in a shower, or even whilst dealing with a fish, then it helps to prevent them from getting soaking wet. This material is tough enough to withstand regular use out on the bank and won’t easily get snagged on undergrowth and the like.
They’ve been tailored for a comfortable fit that won’t restrict your movements, with an elasticated waist and drawstring to hold them in place, plus elasticated ankle cuffs to prevent them riding up. At the same time though they are also stylish and fit your body shape well, rather than hanging off of it like some joggers can do, and come in a rage of different colours.

There is also plenty of storage space, with both having zipped side pockets plus a small pocket at the rear, and the Heavy version also has two large Velcro cargo style pockets on the side of each leg.
Another great option are our Original Kombats for those that prefer these military style of trousers, which are great for fishing.
The Korda Original Kombats are made from a ripstop fabric, so they are very durable, and if you do get wet, then it is quick drying so you won’t be left feeling uncomfortable.

This fabric is also designed to wick moisture away from your skin, so even if you sweat you won’t be left feeling uncomfortable, and it is a tight enough weave to help prevent mosquitoes from biting you through it.
As you’d expect on this style of combat trousers, there is plenty of storage space, with nice pockets in total, with open ones on each side at waist level and a large Velcro one on each leg, plus pockets within pockets so you can be sure that valuables such as your car keys can’t accidentally fall out.

Jackets for spring fishing
Daytime temperatures can often be in the high teens or even 20s on sunny spring days, but that can be deceiving and at night can drop quickly and leave you feeling cold and not fishing effectively if you aren’t properly prepared.
Whilst you won’t need a jacket to keep you warm a lot of the time, it is something that you should have with you and weighs very little, when added to all the other gear on your Carp Porter barrow that you are taking anyway.
The Korda range offers some great choices when it comes to lighter weight options that will keep you warm and snug, without being too hot, as some winter jackets can be.

At the lighter end of the scale is the Fleece Gilet, which can be worn over the top of a t-shirt or polo, instead of a jumper or hoodie, or as an outer layer when you need some extra warmth to keep your core feeling comfortable, but don’t need a full jacket.
It is made using a brushed fleece material, which has an anti-piling finish to keep it looking good even after continued wear and washing, and is very lightweight so you will hardly even notice you have it on.
If you need something a bit warmer and which covers your whole upper body, then the Polar Fleece Jacket is ideal.

The heavy knit fleece material feels great to wear and is tailored for a good fit, but without impeding your movement, and the hood feels snug on those chilly evenings and mornings when you might need it.
It is a good choice for wearing over the top of a t-shirt or polo when you need additional extra warmth, or if it is really chilly – cold easterly winds are common at this time of year – then it will easily fit over a jumper or hoodie.

Another good option is the Hybrid Jacket, which uses the same material as our Thermolite Puffer Jacket winter coat for the part of the jacket which protects your core, combined with Polar fleece material for the arms and hood.
It is very lightweight thanks to the hollow fibre technology used for the puffer part of the jacket, so provides plenty of warmth without restricting your movement or feeling overly bulky.
Don’t get caught out by spring showers
Spring is a time of year when we can get quite a bit of rain, sometimes very heavy and which can arrive quite suddenly.
If you end up getting soaking wet then you won’t fish as efficiently, and the same goes for if you are having to sit sheltering in your bivvy rather than getting your rods out or putting out more bait, and can cost you fish.

The Korda Drykore range features a Jacket MK2 and Over Trousers MK2, which are very lightweight and can easily be carried with you – they fold up very small so will easily fit inside a bag such as the Compac Dry Bag, which is also good for storing and transporting them if they are wet.
They utilise a 20K waterproof material to keep you totally dry, and are also breathable to help prevent sweating when wearing them during warmer weather, or when you are more active, such as walking around the lake with your gear.

Both are packed full of features that have been designed for anglers, such as Velcro cuff straps which help to seal around your wrists and prevents water running down your sleeves when you are holding your rod. The Over Trousers have long zips on the outside of each leg which gives easy access to anything in the pockets of whatever trousers you’re wearing underneath, such as your car keys.
Caps are great headwear and are part of our premium fishing clothing range
When it comes to headwear at this time of year, this can be something which keeps your head warm or at the other extreme actually keeps the sun off of your head.
Some sort of cap is a great option as it protects your head from both heat and cold, as well as keeping the sun out of your eyes when fish spotting or when you are casting.

The Korda range is extensive and has all different styles and designs to suit any taste, from the original TK Cap which is a very traditional style, through to more modern designs like the Snapback, or Logo Patch Cap, with its mesh back panel for good air flow.
We also do a full range of beanie style hats if you prefer this sort of headwear and are just looking for something to keep your head warm.
