The Basix range
A range of tackle that focuses on delivering high quality tackle at a very affordable price
We wanted to create a range of tackle that was more affordable and would appeal to newcomers to the sport, but without compromising on quality, and so the Korda Basix range was born.
Korda Basix is aimed at those who are new to carp angling, who only target the species occasionally, or who are on a tighter budget when it comes to buying tackle, and within the range we’ve included many of the essential items that you will need to go fishing.
Like anything that we develop, the aim behind it is to help anglers to catch more fish, and Basix is certainly no exception, as for us to produce a range like this, the products had to be good enough that they wouldn’t hinder anglers chances of catching.
So, the focus of Basix is to make the tackle affordable, and whilst it might not be quite as good as similar items within our main ranges, it is still perfectly suited for the job and will enable you to still fish as effectively as you can.
As it turned out, some of the items in the Basix range proved to be so good that some of our Team Korda anglers such as Rob Burgess have been happy to use them within their own fishing, and have caught lots of fish on them.
The Korda Basix range covers everything from terminal tackle such as hooks, hook link material, and other rig bits, right through to line, bite indication and carp care products such as unhooking mats.
So if you’re just getting into the sport and don’t want to spend a fortune on tackle initially until you know exactly what you need and your fishing starts to progress to more complicated rigs and set-ups; or if you don’t have much spare cash and want something that is reliable and won’t let you down, then Basix is the range for you.
Korda Basix Wide Gape hook
The shape of this hook is based on our incredibly popular and effective Wide Gape pattern, and was chosen because it is so effective with such a wide variety of different presentations.
Whether you’re looking to fish with bottom baits, wafters, or pop-ups, the shape of this hook, with an aggressive in-turned eye, helps it to flip over and gain a hook hold without the need to add lots of other components such as Kickers or shrink tubing.
The Basix Wide Gape is a very strong hook as it is made from our ‘X’ gauge wire, and this makes it suitable for use in the UK as well as abroad. It has an unobtrusive nickel coating and a point that although not as sharp as the original hooks, it has been designed to last longer and to allow you to land multiple carp on the same hook without needing to change it unless the point has bent over or blunted. You get ten hooks in a packet, in size 2, 4, 6 or 8, and a choice of barbed or barbless.
Korda Basix Coated Braid
The Basix Coated Braid is very versatile and lends itself to lots of different rigs for pop-ups, wafters, and bottom baits.
It is a soft, supple coated braid, with both the inner braid and outer coating being a subtle camo green colour to help it blend in with most lake beds. The coating is easily stripped back, but tough enough that it won’t break in places other than where you want it to – such as when you knot it - and helps to prevent your rigs from tangling. Another key feature is that you don’t need to steam your rigs in order for them to lay straight – so ideal for day sessions where you may not have a stove with you.
Check out this step-by-step guide, where Rob Burgess shows you how to tie a very simple yet effective rig using this coated braid.
It comes on 10m spools in a choice of 18lb or 25lb breaking strains
Korda Basix Braided Hook Link
The Basix Braided Hook Link material is strong and abrasion resistant, yet still incredibly supple.
This makes it perfect for situations where tangles aren’t going to be an issue, such as using solid PVA bags or fishing Method style.
It is a subtle camo green colour, so it blends in well with any lake bed, and also knots very well with an conventional carp fishing knot, and with 10m on a spool, in a choice of 18lb or 25lb breaking strains, it will be enough to tie plenty of rigs and to last you a long time.
Korda Basix Hair Rigs
If you don’t yet have the confidence to tie your own rigs, or are unable to easily due to factors which might affect your dexterity with your hands, or eye sight, then a ready tied Basix Hair Rig is available and can easily be attached to your lead set up.
These ready tied rigs are constructed using the Basix Wide Gape hooks and Basix Coated Hooklink material to form a bottom bait or wafter rig that will quickly flip over and take a hold in the mouth of a carp.
The rigs have a small stripped section near the eye that forms a hinge, and the supple hair is held in the optimal position via a piece of silicone tubing. Each different size of hook comes with a hair that has a length that is optimal for a particular size of bait – for instance the size 6 is for 15mm baits – but Extenda Stops are also supplied should you wish to use a different size of bait.
The other end of the rig features a loop and a Basix Anti Tangle Sleeve, to allow quick and easy attachment to a Basix Lead Clip, or any similar lead system incorporating a quick change swivel.
These Basix rigs come in packs of two, in sizes 4, 6, or 8, and a choice of barbed or barbless hooks.
Korda Basix Anti Tangle Sleeves
These Basix Anti Tangle Sleeves are a pretty basic item of terminal tackle, yet can make a big difference to your fishing and knowing that your rig isn’t in a tangled mess on the lake bed.
These soft, tapered sleeves not only help to prevent tangles, but are also designed to be used in conjunction with any quick change swivel, just as one that is part of a lead clip, and are used to hold your hook link securely in place once it has been attached to the QC clip.
These sleeves are a camo green colour to blend in, and come in packs of ten.
Korda Basix Baiting Needle
A baiting needle is a very simple thing, but it still needs to make your life as easy as possible when it comes to attaching your hookbaits to a hair.
The Basix Baiting Needle is very sharp and strong, so can easily pierce through harder baits such as nuts, but at the same time the needle is thin enough that it won’t cause them to split.
The crook on the end of this crome-plated needle will hold your hair loop securely whilst it is pulled through the bait, but won’t cause it to fray or strands of braid to separate, which can make it hard to add a hair stop.
The ergonomic handle fits nicely into your hand and makes it easy to use, even with harder baits, and if you do happen to drop it on the floor then the bright green plastic makes it easy to spot.
Korda Basix Rig Scissors
These Basix Rig Scissors have been designed to make rig tying as easy as possible by providing a clean cut to braided hook link materials, which prevents fraying and makes it easier to thread them through the eye of a hook.
The blades are made from stainless steel to ensure longevity and serrated blades give a clean cut every time.
The handles will fit comfortably onto your fingers, and these Rig Scissors can also be stored neatly inside the Basix Tackle Box as they’ve been designed to fit inside it.
Korda Basix Lead Clip Action Pack
The lead clip system is a very effective and tangle free way to fish, especially when you combine it with anti-tangle tubing.
This Basix Lead Clip Action Pack includes everything that you will need to construct this set up, and there are enough components to make five of them.
Like the original Korda lead clip, this one has been designed to release the lead should it become stuck in weed or a snag, but can also be set so it doesn’t come off too easily and cause the loss of more leads than necessary.
The pack includes five lead clips; five tail rubbers; five QC swivels designed to fit into the nose of the lead clips; and two metres of sinking rig tubing. Once you’ve put it together, all you need to do is clip on a rig, add a lead of your choice, and you’re ready to cast out.
Korda Basix Lead Clip Leaders
These Basix Lead Clip Leaders offer fantastic value for money, with two in a packet, as well as being a great set up to use as well.
Each 50cm long leader – so ideal for waters that ban longer ones – features a lead clip and tail rubber for attaching your lead, and has a QC swivel attached to the end of it, making it very easy to add your rig. The other end of the leader has a spliced loop for easy attachment and removal from your main line, using the loop-to-loop method.
The leader is made from a woven lead-free material, which takes on water very well and means that not only does it sink quickly, but it also follows the contours of the lake bed, and the camo green colour of it blends in well.
Korda Basix Tackle Box
The ideal, and very cost effective, way of storing all of your terminal tackle and rig bits is in the Basix Tackle Box.
Made from shockproof, high impact plastic, and fastened via two latch closures, this tackle box has loads of storage space for larger items such as hook link spools, rig tools and the like, in the larger open compartments in the base of it. Plus it features a removeable rig board, with storage space underneath, that is based on a similar design to that found in the Korda RigSafe boxes and can store up to eight pre-tied rigs.
The lid features 21 latched compartments with clear lids which can be used to safely store all sorts of rig components, such as lead clips. The outside of the lid has a ruler, to help you accurately tie your rigs to the desired length.
Korda Basix Main Line
This main line offers great performance but without breaking the bank, and is also available in smaller spools if you only have two reels to fill with it.
The Basix Main Line is very abrasion resistant and tough, but also behaves well on the reel spool and casts nicely without being wiry to use. It also has relatively low stretch, which will help you to feel your lead down to the bottom, plus it knots well with any conventional carp fishing knot.
The camo green colour helps it to blend in and it is available in 12lb or 15lb, which should cover pretty much any carp fishing situation you’re likely to find yourself in, with the 500m or 1,000m spool options meaning you don’t have to buy more than you actually need to fill your reels.
Korda Basix Spod/Marker Braid
This low diameter buoyant braid is perfect for baiting up with a spod or Spomb, or for feature finding with a lead or marker float as it has zero stretch and will allow you to feel what is on the lake bed.
One big advantage over other braids aimed at spodding is that this is 30lb breaking strain, but still a very low diameter, and that means that you don’t need a shockleader, which alleviates the stress around tying fiddly knots and worrying about them catching and causing crack-offs on the cast – especially when an expensive Spomb is attached!
This camo green colour, tightly woven braid feels very nice and smooth to use, and it comes on a 200m spool which means you only need to fill your reel with the braid that you actually need (with backing underneath if necessary), and not hundreds of yards of expensive braid that will never see the light of day. Korda Koach Rob Burgess is a big fan of the Basix Spod/Marker Braid.
Korda Basix Mini Stow
These bobbins are a smaller, more affordable version of the famous Stow bobbins which Korda has been selling for many years.
The Basix Mini Stow can be used with tight or slack lines, and is set up so that when you get a take and the bobbin pulls up, the line releases from the clip – the stainless steel ball chain, with detachable connector system, can be adjusted to make it compatible with any bite alarm (it comes already set at the correct length for use with a Delkim).
It comes complete with a stainless steel weight, and the moulded hockey stick fits neatly below your bite alarm. These bite indicators come in a choice of red, green or blue, and they can be fitted with a Mini Isotope.
Korda Basix Distance Sticks
These high quality distance sticks will allow you to clip-up at the desired distance and fish as accurately as possible, but without breaking the bank.
The stainless steel pint allows the Basix Distance Sticks to be pushed into virtually any ground, aided by a T bar which comes supplied with them.
They are made from stylish grey anodised aluminium with bright green caps on the top of each stick for increased visibility in low light or at night when using a torch – the caps can be unscrewed so that the T bar is stored inside the stick – and they come with a green cord of exactly 12ft in length which makes it easy to set them up correctly every time.
Korda Basix Weigh Sling
If you’re looking for a sling that is incredibly fish friendly, yet won’t cost you much to buy, then look no further than the Basix Weigh Sling.
This has been designed as an out-and-out weigh sling – not for retaining carp in – and makes it easy to transfer fish from your landing net to unhooking mat, and then to weigh them safely.
It is made from durable nylon and is big enough for any carp that you’re likely to encounter in the UK, and the powder coated two piece metal bars offer plenty of rigidity and make it easy to move the fish around, thanks to the strong webbing straps that are attached on each side, and feature metal rings to attach your scales to. The bars are elasticated and can easily be broken down in half, so the sling can be stored within one of the Basix Cradles.
There are plenty of drainage holes so that all the water quickly disappears, making it easier to lift it out of the lake, and a good quality zip at each end of the sling means that the carp can’t accidentally slide out. The sling does float, which makes it easy to transfer fish into it still inside a rolled up landing net, and without risk of damaging fins or tail by lifting them in a net – it can simply be slid into this sling – but is not designed for retaining fish.
Korda Basix Carp Cradle
These carp cradles offer the maximum amount of protection for any fish you catch, whilst still being practical to transport to and from your swim.
There are two different sizes available, with the XL version capable of handling any fish you’re likely to catch in the UK or Europe, and both are made from 50mm padded foam, which provides plenty of cushioning, and have a fish-friendly waterproof outer layer which not only stops the mat from soaking up water, but also ensures that the protective slime on the carp isn’t removed.
The padded walls are high enough that your catch can’t get off the mat and stays within its confines – although a fish should never be left unattended anyway – but aren’t so high that they are intrusive when taking photos.
These Basix Carp Cradles hold in half and zip up, making them easy to transport, plus there are carry straps which also double up as pegging points to prevent a risk of the mat blowing away. There is space inside it to store a Basix Weigh Sling and a Carp Care Kit.
The standard mat is suitable for carp up to 40lb, with the XL mat having plenty of space for carp up to 60lb or even bigger.
