Stay mobile with a Carp Porter barrow and luggage

A look at all the different Carp Porter barrows and luggage that will help you to stay mobile this spring and catch more carp

Spring is definitely a time of year where it can really pay-off to be as mobile as possible, and probably even more so than during other seasons.

The fish are just starting to become more active at the start of spring, but by the end of it they are starting to think about spawning, so things can change a lot on a venue during this period, and even on a daily or hourly basis.

The weather can be very changeable, with some cold nights and even a chance of frost, bright warm sunny days, or sudden torrential downpours, and all of this will affect whereabouts in the lake they will be at any given time, as well as causing them to suddenly move.

Stay on the fish and move as soon as you need to

At any time of year it is essential that you are actually fishing where the carp are, otherwise you aren’t going to catch much, but arguably in spring that is even more the case, as the carp can be very mobile and haven’t yet really settled into a pattern where you know where they are going to be. Plus, the weather can play even more of a part in that than it does once conditions are more settled through the summer.

Making sure that you are mobile enough that you can quickly move and take advantages of any opportunities can really pay off, so that if you do suddenly see a load of carp in a warm sunny corner off the back of the wind, or fizzing up all over the place early one morning, you can be on them and have rigs in place, before they potentially move elsewhere or the weather changes.

Fishing off a Carp Porter barrow keeps you mobile

During the days, if you are expecting the fish to potentially turn up in a few different places throughout the day – maybe fizzing over some fresh weed growth early morning, then moving into a sunny bay on the back of the wind in the afternoon, for instance – then it makes sense not to get properly set up until later in the day, and to move around as the carp do.

The easiest way to do this is by fishing off of your Carp Porter barrow and unloading the mere essentials that you need to get your rods out, and a Compac Low Chair to sit on, whilst the rest of your kit stays loaded and ready to go as soon as you feel the need to, so you can be on the move in a matter of minutes.

What is the best type of Carp Porter barrow for spring fishing?

The type of barrow that you choose to use all comes down to how much kit you take, and how easily you want to be able to transport it.

For smaller amounts of gear, the Carp Porter Stealth is a great option, although it doesn’t have the capability of adding as many accessories and luggage, and means you will probably have to unload more of your gear to actually be able to fish.

If you’re taking more kit, and want to have all your essentials stored in external bags attached to your barrow, then the Roamer and Trident are great options as there is plenty of room for attaching all the extra luggage and accessories you require – the main difference between the two is that the Trident has three wheels and higher handlebars, so is pushed along, rather than being lifted at the back like a traditional wheelbarrow.  Both the Roamer and Trident are available in unpowered or Power Porter models, with the only difference being the motor.

There is also a powered Glider model as well in the Power Porter range, which has clever swivel wheels at the back which make it far more maneuverable than other tri-wheel barrows.

Full range of barrow bags and accessories

There is a full range of luggage designed specifically for use with the Carp Porter barrows and which is fitted externally so that you can access the contents without having to unload everything from your barrow.

This includes larger bags such as the Deluxe Drop In – which has side zip access – plus a Large or Small Front Barrow Bag, both of which are ideal for larger items, such as your Tackle Box, Dry Kore waterproofs, or tea kit – there are even Panniers for your water bottle to make it accessible.

Your banksticks and buzz bars, or Singlez System, can be stored in the Side Bar Bags and Front Bankstick Bag, giving instant access when you arrive in a swim and need them. The Side Bar Bags are also ideal for things such as your scales, Spombs, pots of hook baits, and the like.

Instant access to your bait is also very easy, simply by adding front or rear Barrow Brackets, which are designed to hold the 10 or 17 litre Compac Buckets, and don’t unbalance the barrow either.

There is even a Barrow Cover which can quickly and easily be fitted if you get caught out by rain, and stores away very compactly when not in use – just make sure you store it in an external bag so you can get to it quickly if you need to!

All of this luggage is sold separately and can be fitted to all of the larger barrows – options for the Stealth are more limited as it has been designed for anglers taking less gear – and comes in a choice of green or Dark Kamo pattern.
