Solidz PVA Bags
How to get the best from the Korda range of Solidz PVA bags
Solid bag fishing is one of the most effective tactics you can use, as it leaves your hookbait sat in amongst a small pile of free offerings, but it is also something that many anglers overlook due to the perceived hassle involved in fishing in this style.
Some view solid bag fishing as a method that should be used on more prolific venues where you are expecting a quick bite, but it also accounts for plenty of big carp from harder waters, and is something that the highly successful carp anglers in Team Korda, including avid solid bag users like Rob Burgess, regularly put to good use on a wide variety of different venues both at home and abroad.
Aroma free and zero residue
The range of Korda Solidz PVA bags has been designed to make it as easy and hassle-free as possible to fish in this style, as there is nothing worse than bags which split or fall apart as you try to construct them, or which you know will leave an awful taste in the water (some of them you can really taste when you lick them to seal them), or a load of residue around your rig once the bag melts.
Slow melt version
Korda Solidz PVA is manufactured in the UK to the highest specification and the four sizes in the range have been designed to cover pretty much any situation that you might want to use a solid PVA bag in, with a variety of different sizes. As well as the original Korda Solidz fast dissolve PVA bags, which was designed to melt rapidly, there is now a Slow Melt version, which takes twice as long to melt and is perfect for use in deeper water, fishing through weed, or even when fishing in warmer water temperatures, as it ensures that the bag reaches the lakebed before it starts to break down.
Solidz range of sizes
The range of different sizes – large, medium, small, and XS – covers pretty much any angling situation, from casting a PVA bag to the horizon or wanting literally just a mouthful of loosefeed, such as during the colder months, right through to being able to introduce larger amounts of free offerings in a pile with your hookbait on top.
Korda Solidz PVA bags are virtually neutral pH, completely aroma free, and leave zero residue, as well as being extremely robust and able to withstand distance casting.
Extremely robust for distance casting
They've been designed such that they are very robust and can be pulled around when filling them with bait; putting your lead and rig inside; making a hole to allow the air out; sticking the nozzle of a bottle of Goo into them; or twisting the top and pulling in the corners to tighten them, without fear of splitting or tearing – although always make sure your hands are dry when handling them.
If you are planning to use them at long range or with heavier leads inside, then opt for the Slow Melt version as it is even more robust than the original and there is no fear of splitting them when trying to launch a bag towards the horizon.
Easy to open and fill
Unlike some of the other bags on the market, these are easy to open and the high quality PVA means that even after you’ve opened the packet, they will remain so, as long as you don’t allow them to get damp.
The same applies to when you are tying a number of bags up in advance, although these will always go slightly saggier over time so it is advisable not to stick the corners tight until you actually want to use them, and that way you’ll get the perfect bag every time.
Each packet comes with a free loader funnel that is perfect for filling the bag with whatever you choose to put in it, and helps prevent spillages.
So, if you’re looking for a solid PVA bag that makes this style of fishing as easy and frustration-free as possible, then Solidz is the only choice that makes sense.
Each packet of Korda Solids comes with 25 bags if you are using the XS or small size, or 20 bags in the medium or large size, plus a free unique bag loader. There are a number of products in the Korda range that have been designed especially for use in conjunction with Solidz PVA bags.
KORDA SOLIDZ PVA LEADERS
The Korda Solidz PVA Leaders are designed specifically for use with Solids PVA bags and are constructed using 30cm of 50lb Kable leadcore, which is the perfect length for this sort of fishing. They are designed to be used with an inline lead and feature a size 8 ring swivel that properly locates into the nose of the lead making it semi-fixed – if you prefer, the ring can be cut off and your hook link attached to the swivel instead.
They come complete with a tail rubber, and a spliced loop at one end for quick and easy attachment to your main line (loop-to-loop method works well and is quick). You get three leaders in a pack.
KORDA DARK MATTER LEADERS
The Dark Matter range of fused leaders, which incorporate tungsten collars to ensure they stay pinned to the lakebed, is a good alternative where leadcore is banned or if you prefer this style of leader. It features a Dark Matter Drop-off Inline Leader which is 30cm long and has been designed specifically for use with the Solids range. A size 8 ring swivel is fused to one end, attached so that it suits a drop-off inline set-up, and there is a fused loop at the other end for easy attachment to your main line. You get one per pack and they come in a choice of clear, weed or gravel colours.
If you prefer to fish a conventional inline set-up with your solid PVA bags, rather than a drop-off, then the Dark Matter Ring Swivel leaders are the ones to go for, in the 30cm or 50cm versions. They feature a ring swivel fused to one end – you can cut the ring off if you prefer to attach your hook link directly to the swivel – and all you need to do is add your own choice of inline lead and a tail rubber. The fused loop at the other end makes for easy attachment to your main line. They come in a choice of clear, weed, or gravel colours, with one leader per pack.
KORDA SOLIDZ TAIL RUBBER
These have been designed specifically for use with the Solidz PVA bags and can be used on any of our leaders that are designed for this style of fishing. The Solidz Tail Rubber is much longer than the standard versions, and are designed so that you can twists the top of the PVA bag around them for a neat and secure closure. They will fit any of the Korda inline leads and come in a low visibility weed/silt colour, with ten per pack.
KORDA SOLIDZ PVA BAG RIG WIDE GAPE
Whilst many people will tie their own rigs for solid bag fishing, some prefer to use a ready-tied version like the Solidz PVA Bag Rig Wide Gape which has been specifically designed for use with the Solidz range. They are tied using 18lb Supernatural, which is an ultra-supple braid with a Wide Gape hook and a short piece of shrink tube that helps ensure that the hook flips over and finds a hookhold.
The hair length and addition of Extenda Stops (supplied) means that they can be used with a variety of different sized hookbaits, such as Fake Food maize or wafters. The other end features a loop that can be attached loop-to-loop style to a swivel or ring swivel, or clipped onto a QC swivel. They come in a choice of barbed or barbless, in size 4, 6, or 8, with three rigs per packet.
