The Korda Mixa hook has to be one of the most under-rated and under-used hook in our range, but by ignoring it you are missing out.

Whilst the Mixa was originally designed for floater fishing, it is also brilliant for other types of fishing as well, including zigs – it is the go-to hook for Team Korda anglers such as Rob Burgess when using zig rigs.

Not just a floater hook

Rob has been using these hooks for his zig fishing for years and has complete faith in them, and they are his first choice any time that he casts out any sort of zig.

It isn’t just carp fishing either where it is a great choice, and it is a favourite of Guru specimen angler Gary Newman, who has caught barbel to over 20lb on Mixa hooks, as well as using them for catching specimen chub.

Strong, reliable, and unobtrusive

The Mixa hook is ideal for situations where you need a strong reliable hook, but also one that is as unobtrusive as possible, when it comes to being spotted by the carp, and they also come in smaller sizes than many conventional carp hooks, with sizes right down to a size 12.

Whilst as originally designed for surface fishing, with as little of the hook being visible as possible when fished with bait tight to the shank, or in the case of cork balls, even mounted on the shank itself, these hooks have also become popular with anglers using zig rigs for exactly the same reasons – to make it harder for even the shyest feeding carp to spot and thus causing them to avoid taking the bait.

Capable of landing big carp

Whilst they are made from a lighter gauge of wire than many carp hooks, they are still very strong and have been used to land plenty of large carp over the years, including in weedy or snaggy situations.

The short shank is combined with a wide gape so they still have great hooking potential, even in situations where you can’t rely on the bolt effect from a lead to help get a hook hold.

The Mixa can hook even the shyest carp on the surface, and like all great hook patterns, is also strong enough to land them

The eye of the Mixa hook is very smooth and properly closed, so that even when using a knotless knot on lighter hook links, you don’t have to worry about them getting damaged and shearing off at the eye. The straight eye also helps with this and isn’t putting pressure on those types of hook links at an angle which can increase the risk of breakages.

A sharp hook that stays in once it penetrates

A beaked, needle sharp point also helps with this, as does a small barb – a barbless version is also available - which easily penetrates, and once they go in they tend to bury and won’t easily come out.
