Korda Long Chuck Tapered main line
A tapered main line has a lot of advantages over a traditional shock leader set up
When it comes to extreme range fishing, in order to get as much distance as possible, you need your line to be as thin as possible, but also able to take the force of the cast without resulting in a crack-off.
Traditionally this has involved the use of a low diameter/low breaking strain monofilament main line – something like 0.30mm 10lb line – combined with a shockleader to absorb the force of the cast without breaking, and often that has been something like 30lb Arma-Kord braid, or even a heavier mono.

Disadvantages of a traditional leader set-up
Whilst that sort of set-up works fine, and a braided leader actually helps when it comes to compressing the rod as there is no stretch and all of the power you put into the cast is transferred, it does mean that you have an extra knot to worry about plus it tends to rattle through the rings on the cast.
A leader knot can also be prone to picking up weed, to the extent that it might not even be possible to wind it through your rod tip ring, plus can make it harder to ensure that your rigs are safe in the event of your line breaking.

But now there is a much better option available, which provides all of the performance of the traditional main line plus leader combination, but without any of the downsides associated with it. That option is Korda Long Chuck Tapered main line.
Long Chuck main line is strong and abrasion resistant
Long Chuck Tapered main line is basically a spool or normal main line – in a choice of 10lb, 12lb, or 15lb breaking strains – but with the addition of a thicker 30lb breaking strain section at each end of it.
It features 8m of 30lb breaking strain, 0.47mm diameter, line at each end of the spool, along with a 2m tapering section, which smoothes out the transition from the thicker to thinner parts of the line, and ensures that the line travels through the rings with a reduced risk of frap-ups and crack-offs, which can occur when two very different stiffnesses of line are joined.

This section of heavier line also offers plenty of abrasion resistance when playing a carp and is very tough.
Ultra low stretch for long range casting
One of the biggest issues with thick mono shockleaders tends to be how stretchy thay are and the fact that this actually absorbs a lot of the energy that you put into the cast, rather than transferring that power, and ultimately ends up reducing distance.

Long Chuck Tapered is an ultra low stretch line, which will help you when it comes to fully compressing your rod during the cast.
Very low water absorption
The diameter of your line, and the amount of drag it creates through the air, is a very important factor in the distance you will be able to achieve from your casts.
But the weight of your line also plays a big part as well, and that is affected by the amount of water that it is able to absorb. The more water that it takes on, the heavier the line becomes, and that reduces the distance that you cast with it.

Long Chuck Tapered has a very low level of water absorption – although it still sinks ok – and the original version was kept just as a clear mono, as the addition of dyes also adds extra weight.
Although due to popular demand and the fact that some anglers prefer a green tint to their line, there is also now a green version as well, but using the minimum amount of dye possible.
Korda Long Chuck Tapered line is reversible
The reason for each spool of Long Chuck Tapered having a thicker 30lb section of line at both ends of it are so that if you do get cut off and lose enough of the leader that you aren’t left with enough to be able to safely cast without fear of a crack-off, then you can simply reverse the line.
To do that, all you need to do is wind it off of that spool, onto another spool, and you will be left with the fresh leader section ready to use. So basically it is like having two spools of tapered main line in one, and means it will last a lot longer than a line that only has a leader at one end.

It comes on 300m spools, allowing you to load your reels to the optimum level for casting, without the need for loads of backing, and of course actually being able to fit the whole spool on (you need to do that in order for it to be reversible).
Korda LongChuck has a high breaking strain to diameter
This tapered main line has a very low diameter compared to its breaking strain, so even the 15lb version can be cast a very long way, with the 10-30lb being more akin to the thickness you’d expect from a typical 8lb mono.
The 10-30lb is 0.27-0.47mm; the 12-30lb is 0.30-0.47mm; and the 15-30lb version is 0.33-0.47mm.
