Korda Interceptor Controller Floats

A look at what makes the Interceptor such a good controller float and successful catcher of carp off of the surface.

A controller float is an essential item of tackle for most types of floater fishing, and the Korda Interceptor range is designed to give you the best possible chance of catching if you managed to get carp feeding on the surface.

A controller has three main purposes, the main one being to provide enough weight to enable you to cast far enough to reach where the carp are.

Secondly, it acts as a visual indicator to not only help you pinpoint where your hookbait is, but also when a fish takes your floater you will see the float move.

The Korda Interceptor float provides casting accuracy and distance, and the inline stem helps to prevent tangles, making these controllers great all rounders

Lastly, floats like the Interceptor also provide a bolt effect when the fish tightens the hook link and can help to initially prick the fish before you even strike.

Interceptor controller floats allow you to cast to wherever the carp are

If you find carp feeding on the surface, to have a chance of catching one you need to not only be able to cast your floater far enough to reach them, but also do so accurately enough that you don’t land it right on top of a fish and spook it – you want to cast past the fish and gently ease the float , and your hookbait, back to where the carp are feeding.

Five different sizes and weight of Interceptor are available, everything from 5g right up to 80g, and will cover anything from flicking baits out at very close range under your rod tip, but where you want the extra control that using a float gives versus freelining. Right the way up to long range fishing accurately with the heaviest version. The sizes in the middle are great all-rounders in any surface fishing situation, and sometimes it is useful to use a size slightly heavier than you need in case the fish suddenly push further out from the bank and you need a heavy controller to reach them.

Different weights of Korda Interceptor float are available, and one very useful feature is the hard plastic stem - lie flat on the surface, and helps prevent tangles and aids line control

The shape of the floats body, with a lot of the weight forwards, helps both with casting distance and also casting accuracy.

With these floats you will also find it easier to mend the line if you get a bow in it, as the float is quite stable on the surface and provides enough drag that you can straighten your line without moving the float too much, and this aids line control.

Provides a visual bite indicator for surface fishing

Ideally you want to watch your hookbait and strike when the carp has it inside its mouth, but that isn't always possible due to either the range you're fishing at, or weather conditions such as a ripple on the surface or bright sun in your eyes.

The Interceptor stands out though – to you rather than the fish – as it is super buoyant and can be clearly seen even at longer range, with its opaque white colour designed to show up well, plus its buoyant stem.

With a range of sizes, you can quickly switch to a weight that allows your bait to drift close to the fish, whilst the controller is almost invisible to carp and its design has been carefully selected so as not to spook carp below the surface

When a fish takes the bait and tightens the hook link this will cause the float to move, which you will see more easily than your hookbait being taken amongst other floaters, and you can strike, or sometimes the fish has already hooked itself by that stages and just charges off, so it pays to keep your reel in free spool if you aren’t holding the rod!

Unobtrusive on the surface to the carp

The Korda Interceptor controllers are inline floats, with a length of stiff clear tubing to help prevent tangles when casting, and also to help the float lay flat on the surface, as the tubing is also buoyant. This inline stem has a soft insert at the end where your hook link is attached - either via a standard swivel or some sort of quick change system such as a QC swivel, with a figure of eight loop knot - and it is very easy to thread your main line through it.

With a controller lying flat on the surface like this, there is less chance of it spooking the carp and sometimes they will even come up and mouth at the float out of curiosity.

A good bolt effect from the Korda Interceptor float

This inline controller float has a soft rubber insert in the nose, which your hook link swivel can be pulled into to make it semi-fixed and provide a bolt effect.

The bulbous egg shape of the body of the float provides enough weight and resistance when being pulled through the water, especially when using the larger sizes of Interceptor, that it helps to set the hook.

The Korda Interceptor has a soft rubber insert into which a QC, ring swivel, or standard swivel, tied to your main line, can be pulled to create a semi-fixed bolt effect

This can be especially useful when fishing at range where you have a lot of line to pick up when striking, and for really long range floater fishing you’re pretty much relying on the fish hooking themselves against the float. It can also help in situations where you have a cross wind and it is hard to keep a direct line to the float without a bow in it, which hinders striking.

Tough and durable surface controller float

The Interceptor floats are made from a tough and very durable, incredibly buoyant material that has been designed to withstand constant use, and as it is solid it can’t split or puncture, thus losing its buoyancy, like some controller floats are prone to.

The plastic stem is also tough and durable and is able to withstand the pressure of playing a carp back through the weed, without breaking.
