Carp Care - Propolis and Ulcer Swab

Carp care is of massive importance to us as a company, and is why you will often see us suggesting best practice for using our products – such as weigh slings – in a way that minimises any risk of damage to the fish you catch.

Treat open wounds and damage

There is always a chance though that some damage can be done accidentally, even when being as careful as you can be, or that the fish still has damage from a previous capture or which is naturally occurring, such as during spawning time, or sores.

Treating this damage gives the fish as much chance as possible to heal from it, and also helps prevent other problems, such as infection spreading and ultimately becoming fatal for the fish.

We’ve been selling carp care liquid for many years, going back to our original antiseptic gel – Carp Care All-in-One - that could be used on the mouth or the body, and which originally came from the koi trade.

Since then, things have moved on when it comes to treating fish, and other product evolutions from the koi trade are now available – including Propolis, which is a natural product with antibiotic properties derived from bees and which has proved perfect for use on carp.

Propolis antibiotic and antimicrobial properties, and creates a waterproof barrier once it comes into contact with water and has been left to ‘set’, which only takes a minute or two. Simply apply a small amount to hook holds or other abrasions on the body, split fins etc.

Propolis is best used in conjunction with Ulcer Swab, which is designed to be used to clean and disinfect the area, before Propolis is used to seal the wound.

As well as being suitable to be applied to hook holds, Ulcer Swab can be used anywhere on the body.

Using Propolis and Ulcer Swab together will ensure that whatever you catch goes back in just as good condition as it was in before you hooked it – or in the case of existing damage, even better than before, as its wounds will now heal properly.

This liquid is a natural product derived from bees, with antibiotic and antimicrobial properties, and is perfect for treating hook holds and existing mouth damage, or any other cuts, sores or abrasions that the fish may have on its body or fins.

Propolis creates a waterproof seal over any wound, thus preventing bacteria from getting in and helping it to heal as quickly as possible. Propolis is easy to apply in a suitable amount for the area that needs treating, thanks to its dropper-style built-in nozzle, and once the affected area is covered, simply splash on a small amount of water to ensure that it sets before you return the fish. ULCER SWAB

As part of our aim to ensure that fish go back in at least as good a condition as when they were hooked, if not better, we came up with the Ulcer Swab liquid.

A lot of the focus is on products for treating hook damage to the mouth, but this product is also perfect for use on abrasions, ulcers and other wounds anywhere on the body of the fish. Ulcer Swab is designed to clean and disinfect these areas, so as to prevent them from becoming infected by bacteria or fungus. Propolis can then be applied to seal the wound.
