12: KAIZEN GREEN FOR MIXED VENUES

The Kaizen Green rods are incredibly versatile and whilst it is always best to choose the model from the range which is best suited to the type of carp fishing that you are expecting to be doing the majority of the time, they all perform well in a broad range of different situations.

A range of rods that can be used in multiple fishing situations

When we decided to produce a Green range of the Kaizen rods, one of our priorities was to ensure that the models within it covered any type of fishing that carp anglers are ever likely to encounter at home or abroad.

Whilst at the same time creating rods with an action and characteristics that meant that they were suitable for a range of different uses if anglers found themselves in fishing situations that were different to where they normally fished.

No need for multiple sets of different rods

The idea being that you don’t need to buy multiple sets of different rods and keep switching between them, and for most people one set of Kaizen Greens is all they will ever need, or maybe a couple of sets if they are planning to go off and do totally different types of carp fishing such as from a boat.

You should always pick the length and test curve of rod that best suits the type of fishing that you do most of the time, as well of course making sure that it is suited to your casting style and preferences.

There is little point choosing the 13ft 4lb model if pretty much all your fishing is going to be at up to 80 yards, as you will never utilise most of the power and will be using something that has a stiffer fish playing action than is necessary – whilst the rods are forgiving, due to them all having the same action and taper, that flex in the tip does vary between different models across the range. Some of the Korda anglers happily use a rod of this type for all of their fishing if they regularly fish at long range, knowing that if they do need to flick a rig down the margins in the right situation, then they can still do it comfortably and accurately even with the stiffest rod in the range, so they are always covered whatever the angling situation.

Make sure you pick a Green model that is best suited to the fishing you mostly do

Conversely, it would be a mistake to pick the 12ft 3lb test curve model if you are planning to mainly fish at long range, or are launching out big solid PVA bags all the time, as whilst even this lightest rod in the range (of the standard carp fishing models) is still capable of putting a rig a long way, it will make everything a struggle, and especially so in windy conditions where you want to use a bigger lead. Plus of course, the maximum achievable range is much shorter than the out-and-out Kaizen Green casting rods, whoever is using it.

The same even applies to some of the more specialist models within the range, with the 10ft rods being equally at home when fishing at shorter ranges on intimate venues, or canals and rivers, where there is no need for anything long, and it can even be a disadvantage and more cumbersome. Or when being used for boat fishing at extreme range on big wild European lakes.

The Kaizen Green spod rods are incredibly versatile as well

Even the spod rods are incredibly versatile and have enough feel and precision that whilst they have the power to launch the largest sizes of spod a very long way, they can happily be used when trying to bait very accurately at closer range, or with smaller spods.

So, you really are spoilt for choice, and if you want more information about what each individual model excels at, in terms of the type of fishing, have a read of Choosing your Kaizen Green rod.
